Several Firsts… London Fashion week

I couldn’t think of a far better way to start off the first blog post of the year, than with my first time at London Fashion week.

Every year there are two London fashion week that takes place in the capital, several designers from across the globe showcase their collection. Every designer categorises their collections into Autumn/Winter or Spring/Summer
The autumn/winter 2015 London fashion week took place in Somerset House located on the South side of the Strand in central London. The event began on Thursday the19th and lasts until Tuesday the 24th of February 2015. This year it was sponsored by Vodafone supported by The Mayor of London and the British Fashion Council.

The idea of going to London fashion week generated from my gorgeous friend Victoria asking if I wanted to help out at fashion week and blog about an amazing designer Sabah Mauladad who designs intricate handmade, silk blend neckties and accessories. With two days to the shoot, I cleared my calendar immediately and frantically began looking in “my box” to find what to wear. I was determined not to go shopping!.

As with most firsts, I wasn’t sure what to expect or what would be required on the day but the butterflies in my belly and slight nerves, only assured me it was a good sign. A lot of people go dressed to impress as they hope to catch the attention of either someone from television, media, magazine and so on. There is also the opportunity to network, be interviewed, stand around looking pretty or simply be inspired. I was inspired, awed, puzzled, fascinated all at varying levels. For the first time the it became more apparent to me why fashion is individually translatable.

Unfortunately my many talents does not stretch into the world of photographer and I learnt that taking a good selfie doesn’t make you a photographer. I enlisted the help of my multi talented friend Riyanat Shittu (soon to be Dr. Riyanat) She was kind enough to free up herself for the day, with no hesitation and  was very keen to take up the role of my photographer, (Photo credits: courtesy of Riyanat Shittu)

All work and no play

After we rounded up the shoot, Victoria, Ri and I decided to head into somewhere warm to thaw. Across the road from Somerset House, was ME London hotel. A building that hosts STK restaurant, and my favorite rooftop bar Radio located on the 10th floor of the hotel. On the way up were works of a few designers doted across the restaurant, and towards the escalator to the rooftop bar. We ended the night with a delicious bottle of Spanish red wine and left on a high (pun intended)

Final thoughts… With any long standing relationships, there are still moments when you forget why you fell in love. This has been how I felt about London recently, my passion for London, started to fizzle out. Days like the 21st of February helps reawaken my love for the capital.

Fashion for me must always contain a mix of individualism, character and an element of fun... My blog is the platform at which I can engage in two of my favorite things I.e. writing and fashion

  1. Well you are back with a bang hon! How fun to go for your First fashion wk, Firsts are the best- you dont know what to expect, you’re excited, nervous or is that just me, ha! Your oversized coat is everything, what a punchy colour, and speaking of colour, the clashing prints Sabah pulls of in her outfit are the ish! And great selection of street style pics, you cant mess wtih LDN in that area. Ok Missy, don’t make us wait so long for the next post!!

    • I chose my outfit a night before 🙂 I find some of my most creative looks are usually the ones I decide on last minute as I tend to overthink. Haha yes there was nerves, but the whole experience opened my mind and showed me there are no rules when it comes to fashion. Sabah looked incredible, effortlessly chic. I received an invaluable advice from her to be consistent. Definitely going to try harder to be consistent. Am glad you enjoyed reading my post thanks for always commenting and checking in. Xx
